About

Welcome to Our Church!

How We Began

Over 35 Years Ago, Cornerstone Bible Church Existed As Tri-City Baptist. It Was A Large Church Of 328 Members And The Sanctuary Could Seat More Than 500 People.

The Building Stood Where The Parking Lot Of Home Depot On Mt. Moriah Rd. Is Today. The Pastor Of Tri-City Baptist Was Lamar Mooneyham. He Left The Church In 1982 To Go To Northside Baptist In Charlotte, NC. Clayton Simmons Was Called As The Next Pastor But Was Let Go After A Short Period Of Time.

During 1983 The Leadership Of The Church Left.

One Sunday, Wes Eason Stood Up And Said, “After Service My Family Is Going To Have A Picnic On The Back Lawn And Pray About What To Do About Our Situation. Anyone Who Wants To Can Come And Join Us.”

Following The Service, About 15 People Picked Up Food And Joined The Eason’s On The Back Lawn. It Was A Warm Day So After The Meal We Went Back Inside To Pray And Talk. After Much Prayer, Wes Began The Conversation, Asking If Anyone Had Any Ideas On What Could Be Done To Save The Church. Jim Johnson, Who Was Visiting The Church, Said He Had Been A Deacon In His Previous Church And Would Be Willing To Help. He Was Immediately Voted In As Head Deacon, But First He Had To Go Back To Kentucky And Take Care Of His Dad. When Jim Came Back, Some Months Later, We Had Just Installed Phil Rose As Pastor. Pastor Phil Then Asked Jim To Be An Elder.

Pastor Phil Was And Administrator Type Pastor And Had Helped Other Churches With Similar Situations Regroup. The Mortgage On The Building Was More Than We Could Afford, So We Decided To Sell And Move To Another Location. We Could Not Find A Building Suitable To Our Needs, So We Bought A Piece Of Land. Upon Selling The Building, We Moved Our Services To The EF Hutton Building On University Drive. We Found A Firm, Winebarger Church Builders, Who Presented Three Designs Of Churches To Pick From. One Was Rectangular, One Was Square And One Was Round. They Informed Us That The Round Design Would Give Us More Value For Our Money And Could Be Built Within A Reasonable Amount Of Time. No Other Builder Was Able To Come Close To Their Offer. The Building Was To Be Built For $759,000.00. However, During The Build, Winebarger Church Builders Went Bankrupt.
