Who We Are
Cornerstone Bible Church is a nondenominational, Bible-believing fellowship located in Durham, North Carolina. Our desire is simple and sincere: to glorify God by faithfully teaching His Word and helping people grow in a Christ-centered life. We believe that the Bible is the authoritative and sufficient Word of God, and that genuine spiritual transformation happens only as hearts and minds are shaped by Scripture.
Cornerstone is a small church family made up of people from different backgrounds and walks of life, united by a shared love for Jesus Christ. Whether you are exploring the Christian faith, returning to church after some time away, or looking for a place to deepen your walk with God, you will find a warm and welcoming community here.
Our Mission
Our mission is to see lives changed by the truth of God’s Word. We pursue this by:
We believe that God alone is the One who gives real hope, real peace, and real purpose. Everything we do—every message, every ministry, every act of service—is rooted in the conviction that God’s Word transforms lives.
Our Story
The roots of Cornerstone Bible Church stretch back more than 35 years to our earlier identity as Tri-City Baptist Church, a vibrant fellowship once located near what is now the Home Depot on Mt. Moriah Road. Through seasons of growth, pastoral transitions, relocation, and change, one thing remained constant: a faithful group of believers who loved the Scriptures and desired to follow Christ wholeheartedly.
That enduring commitment eventually shaped what is now Cornerstone Bible Church—a congregation built not on buildings or personalities, but on the firm foundation of God’s truth. Our name reflects our identity: Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone, and we desire to build our lives and ministries upon Him.
Today, we continue forward with gratitude for God’s faithfulness in the past and confidence in His grace for the future.
Our Connection with Shepherds Theological Seminary
Cornerstone Bible Church enjoys a meaningful and ongoing relationship with Shepherds Theological Seminary (STS) in Cary, NC, and with The Shepherd’s Church. Many of our guest speakers, teachers, and ministry partners are students or graduates of STS, and we share a unified commitment to biblical inerrancy, expository preaching, and Christ-centered ministry.
This partnership enriches our teaching ministry, strengthens our doctrinal foundation, and provides opportunities for developing pastors to serve and grow. Our church family is blessed by the faithful men who come through our pulpit, and we are thankful for the theological heritage we share with STS.
What We Believe
Cornerstone Bible Church holds to the historic Christian faith and affirms the core doctrines of Scripture, including:

More than 35 years ago, Cornerstone Bible Church began as Tri-City Baptist Church, a vibrant fellowship of over 300 believers. The church gathered in a spacious sanctuary—where the Mt. Moriah Road Home Depot parking lot stands today—and was blessed with strong seasons of growth and ministry.
During those early years the church experienced several pastoral transitions, including the leadership of Pastor Lamar Mooneyham, who later accepted a call to Northside Baptist in Charlotte. Though the following season brought challenges and change, God faithfully preserved a group of committed believers who desired to continue worshiping together, studying the Scriptures, and serving their community.
That faithful remnant ultimately became Cornerstone Bible Church—a congregation built not on buildings or pastors, but on the unchanging truth of God’s Word and His sustaining grace.
